The theme year was inclusion and so for our work on Anti Bullying week, we used Brian Moses’ poem about the Friendship bench (http://hachettechildrensdigital.co.uk/wayland/downloads/Friendship_BenchPoem.pdf ) . We read the poem and thought about the messages and then we created some alternative verses of our own about who we wanted to sit on our Friendship bench.
Then in our Music lesson we worked on performing our poems and putting a musical accompaniment to them. The lesson was only a short one but all the groups worked incredibly hard and performed their poems brilliantly.
We also looked at being nice to each other and not leaving anybody out. Everyone had an envelope with a child’s name on and they had to write something nice about that person. The envelopes were collected in and then it was repeated on Friday. After lunch the envelopes were given to the person named and everyone had two compliments with nice things said about them. Some of the comments were really thoughtful.
And just in case anyone is wondering about the head gear, Friday was also “Fancy Hat Day”. This was chosen by the Student Council as a fun way to celebrate the pupil’s good behaviour and hard work.
