Year 6 DT this term was to design and build a shelter to protect two lego people from wind, rain and heavy weights crashing down on them!
After we had designed our shelters, we made mock ups using art straws to check that our designs would work.
Then came the really fun part of making the actual shelters using wood. We had to saw the wood into the correct length pieces.
It was really tricky to get the wood exactly the right length!
Then we had to fix the pieces together.
Finally we had to create a roof and walls to make our shelters water and wind proof.
Then came the really fun part. We had to test our shelters to see which ones had met the challenge.
First we tested to see if each shelter was strong enough to carry a kg weight. All of the shelters were strong enough to hold the weight.
Then we tested if the shelters were windproof by wafting a book to create a strong draught. Some of the lego men fell over at this point.
Finally we tested to see if the shelters were waterproof.
Sadly, some of the shelters let the water in and the lego people got wet feet!
